Amos Gebhardt’s cinematic works map both human and non-human narratives using techniques of sonic abstraction, dance, slow motion and time lapse to frame large scale, multi-screen video installations and photographs. Gebhardt challenges normative notions of being by examining intersections between culture, nature and the body. Extending beyond an anthropocentric world-view, Amos’ multi-disciplinary installations encapsulate the drama of both human and non-human experiences igniting collaborations with a range of musicians, performers, choreographers and sound artists.
Gebhardt has created moving image works for gallery exhibition, cinema and broadcast, exhibiting at AGSA, Samstag Museum, ACMI, MONA, Monash Gallery of Art, Gertrude Contemporary, SBS and ABC. Gebhardt was a recipient of the Sidney Myer Creative Fellowship and is represented by Tolarno Galleries.
