Estelle Yoon

Born 1995, Seoul, South Korea
Lives and works Sydney/Eora, Australia

Estelle Yoon is a queer, Korean-Australian visual artist currently practising on Gadigal land. Yoon’s artistic practice pursues the philosophy of wabi-sabi, searching for and expressing simplicity, beauty in imperfection, and transience, through her core mediums of analogue photography and
filmmaking. The tactile nature of the film medium allows her to delve into the nuances of composition, light, texture, experimentation, and its visual poetry within her bodies of work that explore her identity of diaspora and intersectional queerness, and the notions of family, time, memory and nostalgia.

PHOTO Australia respectfully acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands upon which we work and live, and the rich and diverse Indigenous cultures across what is now called Australia. For over 60,000 years, Indigenous arts and culture have thrived on this sacred land, and we honour Elders and cultural leaders past and present. This was, and always will be, Aboriginal land.
