Born 1979, Roccasecca, Italy
Lives and works Arles, France

An award-winning photographer working with photography and video, Di Sturco began his career as a photojournalist before devoting himself to long- term projects that explore the society of the future in the face of environmental and technological change. Experimenting with visual narrative, new and old media, his practice extends the traditions of documentary photography by evoking a poetics of the future where the boundaries between reality and fiction become blurred. His awards include three World Press Photo Awards, the Sony Photography Awards, the British Journal of Photography International Awards and two Getty Grants. In 2019, his Aerotropolis project was shortlisted for the Aesthetica Award and nominated for the Prix Pictet. In 2022, his ongoing project Anthropocosmos was selected for the BNF grant.
His work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions and festivals around the world at York Art Gallery, Photaumnales Festival, Photo London, Getxophoto Festival, Paris Photo and Cortona On The Move Festival, among others. He has published his first monograph, Ganga Ma (GOST, 2019).

PHOTO Australia respectfully acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands upon which we work and live, and the rich and diverse Indigenous cultures across what is now called Australia. For over 60,000 years, Indigenous arts and culture have thrived on this sacred land, and we honour Elders and cultural leaders past and present. This was, and always will be, Aboriginal land.
