Sarah Mosca’s practice negotiates the role of photography and its historical nuance; drawing from theoretical texts regarding photography’s relationship to truth to her current enquiry, re-contextualising the ‘gaze’ within contemporary feminist philosophy. Threading together themes of sorrow and fiction she asks philosophical questions about authenticity, formlessness and aesthetics. These explorations of meaning and narrative flirt with ideas of representation examining the materiality of photographs and its attendant possibilities as sculptural artefacts. Sarah Mosca is represented by Sarah Cottier Gallery.

PHOTO Australia respectfully acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands upon which we work and live, and the rich and diverse Indigenous cultures across what is now called Australia. For over 60,000 years, Indigenous arts and culture have thrived on this sacred land, and we honour Elders and cultural leaders past and present. This was, and always will be, Aboriginal land.
