Xiao Lu (肖鲁), born in 1962 in Hangzhou, China, graduated from the Department of Oil Painting at Hangzhou Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts (now China Academy of Art) in 1988. Currently, she resides in Sydney, Australia.
Xiao Lu’s works encompass various mediums such as performance, installations, photography, videos, and paintings. Her sensitivity lies in her authentic experiences and politically conscious standpoint. In 1989, the artist performed an act of shooting towards her work ‘Dialogue’, which has since been referred to as the ‘first shot of the Tiananmen incident’. Variations of the work have been exhibited worldwide, and are held in collections including the Tate and Moma.
