In connection with Jill Orr’s current exhibition, this participatory workshop will be delivered as a way of sharing stories of the different ways of coming to Australia across generations, nations, and circumstances.
Artist Dagmara Gieysztor will teach the group a simple paper folding technique which will become part of a group installation exhibited in the gallery.
These paper boats serve as a metaphor but also a reflection of Australian colonial and migrant history acknowledging and paying respect to the traditional custodians of the land.

PHOTO Australia respectfully acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands upon which we work and live, and the rich and diverse Indigenous cultures across what is now called Australia. For over 60,000 years, Indigenous arts and culture have thrived on this sacred land, and we honour Elders and cultural leaders past and present. This was, and always will be, Aboriginal land.
