Mashara Wachjudy’s practice is a consideration of memory and cross-cultural experience. Documenting places lived and passed through, Mashara’s work observes the physical and emotional relationships we have with landscape and place.  Recent exhibitions include group shows looking here looking north as part of Woven Kolektif at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre as well as Too Tired slideshow exhibition at Vermont Centre for Photography curated by Tara Wray of Too Tired Project; and Outdoor video projection exhibition in Kandija bay, Croatia, curated by Ela Projects (Athens). Mashara’s solo exhibition I walked forward to the west was presented at Bus Projects in August, 2017. She has also exhibited extensively in Sydney and Melbourne in both gallery and alternative spaces including Firstdraft, Bus Projects, Casula Powerhouse, Seventh Gallery, Cement Fondu, Down/Under Space, Collingwood Arts Precinct, The Honeymoon Suite and Verge Gallery.

PHOTO Australia respectfully acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands upon which we work and live, and the rich and diverse Indigenous cultures across what is now called Australia. For over 60,000 years, Indigenous arts and culture have thrived on this sacred land, and we honour Elders and cultural leaders past and present. This was, and always will be, Aboriginal land.
