Photobook weekend: Emmanuelle Andrianjafy and George Georgiou

PHOTO 2021’s Photobook Weekend celebrated the role of photobooks in contemporary photographic practice.

Emmanuelle Andrianjafy and George Georgiou are joined by Markus Schaden, Director of the PhotoBook Museum, Cologne, for an exclusive online conversation about their book-making practices.

Emmanuelle Andrianjafy’s book Nothing’s in Vain is a personal response to the city of Dakar, and won the 2017 MACK First Book Award. Americans Parade by George Georgiou builds up a picture of Americans in the United States in 2016, the year Donald Trump was elected, a year when America’s divisions have never been more pronounced.

PHOTO Australia respectfully acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands upon which we work and live, and the rich and diverse Indigenous cultures across what is now called Australia. For over 60,000 years, Indigenous arts and culture have thrived on this sacred land, and we honour Elders and cultural leaders past and present. This was, and always will be, Aboriginal land.
