Join Jewish Museum CEO/Director Jessica Bram in conversation with Helmut Newton Foundation Director/Curator Dr Matthias Harder.

Helmut: In Focus celebrates the extraordinary life of one of the most influential and provocative fashion photographers of all time. Showcasing an expansive collection of Newton’s most recognisable works, the exhibition presents an electrifying look at the daring and often controversial images that established his reputation as one of the most sought-after photographers of the 20th century.

  • Jessica Bram (AU)

    Jessica Bram brings 15 years’ experience across curatorial, creative and strategic thinking in museums and the arts/cultural sector. Joining the Jewish Museum team most recently from a position as Curator at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI), Jessica is widely regarded as a leader, experienced in delivering blockbuster projects using state-of-the-art immersive technology as well as audience segmentation tools. She has extensive local and international connections via a range of museological and cultural networks.

  • Matthias Harder (GER)

    As a teenager Matthias Harder photographed and even built his own darkroom. Instead of practicing the art, he decided to become a theoretician, fascinated by this mode of expression as a kind of language. In 2002 he won the German Photographic Association’s Erich-Stenger-Preis for his doctoral thesis on Walter Hege und Herbert List. Greek Temple Architecture in staged photography. In 1995 Matthias Harder opened the exhibition space empty rooms and began to curate as a member of the neue Gesellschaft für bildende Kunst (nGbK). Between 1999 and 2002 he designed exhibitions on Herbert List and Stefan Moses at Münchener Stadtmuseum. In 2002 he managed Palais für aktuelle Kunst in Glückstadt. He has been the curator of the Helmut Newton Stiftung in Berlin since 2004.
